Skratch Attach

Safety Guide

Skratch Attach products use strong permanent magnets as part of their mounting system. Please read and follow these safety guidelines before use.

Pinch Hazard

The magnets used in Skratch Attach products are strong enough to snap together forcefully when brought near metal surfaces or other magnets. This can cause serious pinching injuries to fingers and skin caught between the magnet and a metal object.

  • Keep fingers clear of the gap between the device and any metal surface during installation.
  • Approach metal surfaces slowly and deliberately — never drop or swing the device near metal.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Pacemakers & Implanted Medical Devices

Strong magnets can interfere with the operation of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), insulin pumps, cochlear implants, and other implanted medical devices.

  • If you or anyone nearby has an implanted medical device, consult your doctor before handling this product.
  • Maintain a safe distance (at least 6 inches / 15 cm) between the product and any implanted device.
  • Do not allow others with pacemakers or ICDs to handle the product without medical guidance.

Credit Cards, Electronics & Magnetic Media

Strong magnets can erase or damage items that store data magnetically or are sensitive to magnetic fields.

  • Credit cards & hotel keys — magnetic stripe cards can be erased by proximity to the magnets. Keep wallets and key cards away from the device.
  • Hard drives — traditional spinning hard drives can be damaged by strong magnets. SSDs are generally safe, but caution is advised.
  • Magnetic media — cassette tapes, VHS, floppy disks, and similar media can be corrupted.
  • Other electronics — keep the device away from sensitive electronics such as CRT monitors, older speakers, and compasses.

Loose Metal Objects

Nearby ferromagnetic metal objects (screws, tools, hardware) can be attracted to the magnets unexpectedly and with significant force.

  • Clear your workspace of loose metal objects before installing or removing the device.
  • Be especially careful around DJ equipment with exposed metal hardware.
  • Attracted objects can pinch skin or damage your equipment if they snap onto the magnets.
