Standalone mode
Skratch Attach without a DJ controller: the app plays through your Mac's or iPad's own output, and you drive it from the screen. Good for prepping crates, testing a mix, or building stems.
⚡ There is nothing to turn on. Launch the app with no controller attached and it goes standalone by itself.
What happens at launch
If the app finishes looking for hardware and finds none, it drops straight into standalone and tells you so:
STANDALONE MODE. NO DJ DEVICE DETECTED.
Both deck bars then carry a STANDALONE chip in its own lavender colour, so there's never a doubt about which way the audio is going. Both decks start in DVS INTERNAL — no vinyl, on-screen transport.
Plugging a controller in later
Connect a device while the app is already running and it asks first:
<device> DETECTED / CONNECT?
Say YES and the app switches to that device. Say NO and it stays quiet until you unplug — plug it back in and it asks again. A device that's already present when you launch simply connects, with no question.
If a controller drops out mid-set
That's a different situation and it's handled differently: the app keeps trying to reconnect, which is what you want when a cable gets kicked. The reconnect banner carries a USE STANDALONE button as the escape hatch if the controller is genuinely dead.
It only helps mid-set if your computer or iPad is actually cabled into the mixer, since standalone plays out of the device's own output.
What standalone does not do
Some things need the hardware, and the app doesn't pretend otherwise:
- No cue and no split cue. One output, no headphone feed.
- No metronome, no tape recorder.
Everything else is there: both decks, all the pad modes, EQ, filters, FX, the browser, stems, crates and Wax-ID.
